Crocheted cat with a dress and shoes was made as a custom order and is now already on its way to America – to its new home.

I crocheted the cat using Hilda the Ragamuffin pattern, but instead of wool yarn (Drops Nepal), this time I used cotton (Drops Muskat). Muskat has generally not been among my favorites, but this time I really enjoyed how smoothly it slid on the hook. The work progressed effortlessly!

At the customer’s request, the colors had to be more on the pastel side, and I managed to find just the right shades in my yarn stash – light gray, soft yellow, pale pink, mint, and a clay-red tone. By pure luck, I also found my very last pair of big cat eyes, and they looked perfect with warm orange eye patches.

I hadn’t made a Hilda-type cat in quite a while. What I’ve always loved the most about her are the shoes. I’ve even used a similar design for the teddy Doris. They’re just so cute! I still remember how much I struggled with them the very first time, before I finally managed to write the pattern correctly and was happy with it.

The dress is striped, and the striping can easily be adjusted depending on which yarns and how many colors you happen to have on hand. I’ve also made a blue-and-white striped dress with a yellow skirt part – and that turned out really pretty too.

If you’d like to crochet a cat like this yourself, you can get the pattern here.

The design is of intermediate difficulty. Besides single crochet, you’ll also need half double crochet for the shoes and double crochet for the skirt.

The finished cat measures a little over 30 cm (almost 13 inches) tall.
