The very first version of this puppy was actually made many years ago for my sister, commissioned by her boyfriend at the time.
Later I crocheted an even bigger version that was featured in my book “Cuddly Amigurumi Toys”.
You can also find the pattern as a downloadable PDF in my webshop.
This is a fairly large crochet project and it does require quite a bit of yarn and stuffing. The puppy is made with 5 shades altogether, including 3 skeins of the main color.
Still, the pattern itself is pleasantly straightforward to crochet.
It is a wonderful project for anyone who enjoys larger crochet pieces instead of tiny fiddly details. There is plenty of relaxing crocheting here.
The puppy is constructed from 12 separate pieces and the newly updated pattern includes instructions for both gray and beige colorways.
Personally, I love crochet toys made with soft wool yarn, and the wool-alpaca blend used for this puppy feels especially warm and cuddly.
But if you prefer, you can absolutely make the large crochet dog using cotton yarn in a similar weight. The pattern works beautifully either way.
