1st Advent – Snowman

Even though we say Christmas is the time of peace and joy, quiet evenings with family and friends, it actually tends to be the most restless time of the year. We have so much to do – parties here and there, preparations for events, shopping, cooking etc. For crafty people it probably means the busiest time of the year for fulfilling all the customer orders.

This year I decided to make it differently. I take time for myself. I am planning to celebrate each Advent with something new I have made, something that goes together with the Christmas and winter overall. This is all new and interesting for me as I haven`t made much holiday stuff before. Also it will be a challenge and we`ll see if I´ll manage to put myself together and complete it successfully.

Does anyone want to join me?! I would feel so happy if you did. It would be much more fun to make it together then do it alone! What you need to do is simply share the link of what you have made on the comments feed. One item per week and Christmas stuff only. So let`s get started!

My first weeks project was the snowman. I`ve seen some cute ones on the internet, but tried to keep myself away from focusing on what other`s have made. Thought it will be a simple project – three snow balls up on eachother and that`s it, but it wasn`t. I wanted my snowman to be like a real one. And I wanted it to be a toy and not an ornament or decoration. It has carrot for the nose. I placed it a little awry to achieve more lifelike look. Making branches for the hands was quite interesting. I made them different, because you`ll never find two similar branches in the woods right?!

I didn`t contribute much on cuteness, but my kids love it! So I think it worked :) For my little Christmas project to be complete I decided to give this snowman for the charity project held here in Estonia. Each year people are collecting gifts for the children who have to spend their Christmas at hospital. I hope my snowman will help at least one of these kids to feel more of the Christmas feeling and bring a smile on his/her face :)

My little boy was glad to pose with the snowman, so you could see the size of it. It is about 21 cm.

Now I´m anxoius to see your projects! Hope to hear from many of you during this week.

I’d love to have your pattern to make some of them for a few of the residence in my local care home.
